Fourth Episode
That night, Nuriko looked so troubled and Miaka
volunteered to heel for Nuriko’s lost earring – which
actually never existed… in other words Miaka is going
into a trap. At the gazebo near the pond, the emperor
and his advisers were talking about the young
majesty’s marriage. Hotohori didn’t like the women in
the inner palace because he had someone else in his
mind. Miaka passed by and talked about Nuriko. He
planned to give Nuriko a special order but Miaka
refused. She wanted to make friends with her without
the help of others. She reached the area where Nuriko
said she lost her earring. She fell into the pond and
called Tamahome. He felt uneasy. He rose quickly
from bed and heard Nuriko’s story of tricking Miaka.
He tried to go but her tight grip prevented him.
Nuriko told him that she used him as revenge to
Miaka. She loved Hotohori but he loves Miaka.
Miaka heard it all. She gave a beautiful pebble and
agreed to tell Hotohori about Nuriko. In Hotohori’s
room, Miaka fulfilled her promise but he doesn’t seem
to care. Instead he proposes to Miaka and tells her
that she’s exactly how he pictured the “Maiden of
Suzaku”. He carefully laid her in his bed. He won’t
order her to love him but he’ll make her love him. He
sat very close to the maiden and his lips are about to
meet hers… instead he pulled his sword, stood up and
slashed the wall. He found two eavesdroppers,
Tamahome and Nuriko. In the morning Miaka wondered
if Tamahome feels something for her. Nuriko went
hysterical at her. Tamahome and Nuriko went to town
to sell the chewing gum. Miaka followed them
thinking that they couldn’t see her in her disguise.
The town folks began to fight over the chewing gums
after they knew that it was really from the maiden.
They escaped in an alley where they find a businessman
and his group. The group tried to buy Miaka for
thirty-seven pieces of gold. Miaka and Tamahome
fought them while Nuriko hides in a wall. The maiden
revealed her secret hoping to get a positive reply
from Tamahome. Tamahome tactlessly said that he felt
nothing for her. She fainted due to her high fever.
